A House with Panache

In redoing a 1950’s house, Sandra and her team needed to suit the home to the lifestyle of the client and his family while infusing it with personality. The house was gutted and traditional elements introduced—a fumed oak floor, an inlaid marble mantelpiece from London, a multi-level library modeled after Henry Higgins’s in “My Fair Lady.” And then contemporary touches were added: over the mantle hangs an octagonal mirror, while the entrance hall features an overscaled wallpaper and Diane Arbus photographs. The result is both deeply traditional and surprising.
