A Townhouse Aerie

To create a harmonious residence out of two separate apartments, Sandra and her team had to reconceive the space entirely, combining rooms and replacing windows with French doors to let in an abundance of light. Period furniture — chairs by Carlo Bugatti and Osvaldo Borsani, a 19th-century Biedermeier chest, a 1940's lacquer-and-steel Jansen dining table — stands out against a shimmering palette.  Throughout, the eye is drawn is a diverse collection of art: pieces by Richard Serra, Kenneth Noland, and Richard Pettibone rub shoulders with a pair of Maori hand clubs and a Senufo bird sculpture from Ivory Coast, a combination that is at once surprising and perfectly natural.
